I am a trained maternity practitioner, more commonly known as a non-medical maternity nurse. As a maternity nurse I can show, teach and carry out duties related to the physical and emotional aspects of caring for a newborn, such as, but not limited to:
- bathing
- dressing
- cleaning (baby areas)
- settling
- comforting
- changing nappies
- taking out baby for walks in the pram
- sterilising bottles/breast pump equipment.
I can also offer support to mothers who wish to breastfeed or bottle-feed, help to implement good sleeping habits and establish a routine, that works for the whole family.
Working schedule
My working schedule as a maternity nurse varies between 24/5 or 24/6 to either just days or nights, depending on family requirements. During 24h shifts, I require a 4h break to help me stay focused and fulfil my duties effectively.
